Doodle Dog Creative is a creative agency headquartered in Dallas and Austin, Texas, specializing in branding solutions, website design and development and search engine optimization. We create smile worthy concepts that capture personality and inspire brands.
We are so excited to unveil the new custom responsive website design for an organization we adore: The Southern Coterie—or, as its members fondly refer to it, The Southern C. We kept their brand’s color palette of warm brown and soft white, with a simple sans serif and pretty script to keep their site clean, organized and functional. Accents of teal blue and headers in a block serif keep this site interesting without overpowering its content. We loved bringing a southern-hospitality-inspired look to the Southern C’s digital presence, giving them a site that matches their cheerful, intelligent and entrepreneurial personalities.
Beyond the updated design look, we brought Southern C a new level of networking functionality. With profile pages and messaging capability for all their connections, members of the Southern C can interact in their own digital space. We also provided an events and past events category where the Southern C can feature its upcoming and past Summit conferences. Guests can register for the event, or view photos and scheduling details from past events.
This site allows the Southern C to live out their motto: Connect. Collaborate. Create. With new networking functionality built into their site and a design that warmly welcomes future members, the Southern C is ready for their next chapter!
Love what you see? Stop by and take a look at the site here – and go ahead and become a member while you’re at it! Oh and if you really love it – be sure to sign up for their upcoming event in March (click on the Summit page) . We are so excited to announce that we’ll also be attending as a sponsor, as well as a session leader for attendees (we’ll tell you more about this as it gets closer). Hope to see you in Charleston!
You may remember a post we did a month or so back introducing Ebony Peoples Events & Design’s new branding, logo and business cards. Shortly after we completed the branding Ebony came to us again looking for a site and blog to match. So we created a simple to navigate, informative and fun site for Ebony to show off all of the great work that she’s been working on.
Here’s a peak at the site and blog:
Get to know Ebony:
How long have you been in business?
I have been dibbling and dabbling in the event industry for about 5 years but officially began my business almost 2 years ago.
What do you do?
Ebony Peoples Events & Design is a chic event planning & design boutique. We offer personalized ‘Full’ to ‘Month-of’ wedding planning services. We also offer design services and coordinate social and corporate functions.
Why did you start your business?
What started out as planning small events for family and close friends during college has grown into a dream career. I have always been the go-to person when it comes time to get ideas for the family wedding, a baby shower, or a friends birthday party. I consider myself to be organized and I always have my to-do list close by my side. I am a sucker for true love and the idea of marriage means so much more to me than just the wedding. With these things combined, wedding and event planning has always come natural to me. Everyday is an event to celebrate, whether it’s an afternoon tea with your girls or the day you marry your best friend. We only have one life to life… spend it doing what you love!
What is unique about your business?
Ironically, my maiden-name is Peoples and I am just that, the ultimate people-person! I have never met a stranger and I cherish the relationships that I build with my clients. My goal is to create one-of a kind, personalized weddings and events that truly embody the style and personality of my clients.
What is the process like to work with you?
The process usually begins with a phone call or email followed by an initial consultation over a yummy drink at Starbucks. If we’re a match made in Heaven, the planning and magic begins! Depending on the clients specific needs, we’ll be best friends for as long as it takes to make your dream event a reality! I also like to keep in touch with former clients on birthdays and anniversaries 🙂
Tell us about your family.
I am getting ready to celebrate my one-year anniversary with the love of my life on January 17, 2011. Jovan is my husband, my best friend, my everything… He has been in my corner cheering on Ebony Peoples Events & Design from the beginning. We don’t have any kids just yet but our dog, Papi, (a chihuahua-dachshund mix) is our practice. I am very close to my mom, grannies, brothers, and sisters back in Michigan. (You should see my sprint bill!) If I could fly back home every Saturday morning to have breakfast with my mom and granny, I would!
Do you have any pets? What are their names?
We have Papi… but he’s more like a child than a dog 🙂 We also have betta fish.
Where do you like to shop?
I love Macy’s, Target, Express, and BCBG… (I’m sure my husband has more to say on that!) My motto is: If Target doesn’t have it, nobody does!
Describe yourself and your style.
I love to combine the elegance and class of tradition with a modern, trendy edge. I’ve often described my business as Celine Dion meets Beyonce!
Where do you find inspiration?
EVERYWHERE! I can find inspiration in just about anything. I dream BIG so I usually keep a notepad close to the bed 🙂
Why did you decide to work with Doodle Dog?
I met Nikki while training with Dallas Wedding Planner. I immediately noticed her passion for her work and unique style. After seeing some of her branding and websites, I knew in my heart that I just had to work with her. Working with Nikki has been an amazing experience. I would do it all over again in a heart-beat. Nikki was able to capture my true personality and she brought it to life through my logo, website, and printed materials. Whatever you stationery or advertising needs are, Doodle Dog Advertising will get you where you need to be!
Be sure to check out the new site and blog and give Ebony a call if you are looking for a planner!

So yesterday I was struck with the dreaded creative block. I had a few sites to design, logos to create and lots of other work that needed done, but it just wasn’t working for me. So I posted my dilemma on twitter and within minutes I had two suggestions:
1. Go to http://brainzooming.com/?p=3924 and read all about the 26 ways to “unblock” your block
or
2. Go to Barnes and Noble, and look at magazines, books, packaging etc. (courtesy of Cindy of Cindy and Saylor Photography)
So, since I needed a break I did both and here is what I found most helpful:
Find Someone Who Loves Something You Created – People who think you’re creative are great creative catalysts. Seek them out and ask what inspires them about creative work you’ve done. Use how you’ve inspired them in the past to inspire your creativity now.
Use “Real Simple” Magazine – This magazine, in particular, is a great inspiration for creativity. Take your creative block and go page by page asking how the images and headlines you see could shape your creative strategy, writing down ideas as you go. If you prefer a different magazine, look for one with lots of images and big headlines.
Doodle and Eat – Many restaurants use white paper in place of cloth table coverings. Go to one nearby with pens, markers, or crayons and doodle your way through dinner. Write, draw, diagram, or do whatever else will trigger your creativity.
Go Get Sweaty – Studies show it and so does any great workout – physical exercise is a wonderful way to shake your mental cobwebs loose. Pick your favorite exercise and participate in it aggressively, putting your creative block to the side. When you’re done, you’ll see your creative challenge with new clarity.
Starbucks – hang out, they have some great little gadgets and gifts and all seem to have great packaging
BLOG – And to add another option, blog. Blogging helps inspire me so much because it forces me to check out what other people have going on on their blogs or other great designs/products or trends that are happening around me!
