WORDPRESS SECURITY UPDATE!
If you are a Doodle Dog client and we have built your site or if you are just a WordPress user in general this message is very important for the security of your website!
There is another not-so-friendly neighborhood hacker in the WordPress world who is trying to access and damage as many WordPress based sites as possible. If your username is “admin” you are much more vulnerable than anyone else. So to take extra precaution follow the instructions below. This will only take you about 5 minutes to complete and could save you a lot of time, money and energy later trying to remove a hack.
STEP 1: Login to your dashboard with your existing username and password (ie. www.myurl.com/wp-admin)
STEP 2: On the left hand side of the dashboard you’ll see the section called Users, click on that.
STEP 3: Once you are here, you’ll see a list of all of your users on your site, and you’ll want to click on the botton at the top near the title of the page that say “Add New”
STEP 4: Add a new username and password that you choose, your username should be anything other than “admin” and your password should be somewhat difficult. (add numbers and symbols). Note: you will have to use a different email address to create the new username than you were using before, but you can change it back to the one you prefer after you are finished with these 7 steps.
STEP 5: Log out of your account.
STEP 6: Log into your account with the new username and password that you just created.
STEP 7: (DON’T FORGET THIS STEP!!) Delete the old username you were using that was called “admin”. Once you do this it will ask you if you want to remove all of the posts that were created under this username, you want to answer NO, you just want to re assign them to the new username that you just created (this will be an option for you to select).
